Tattoo Aftercare

    • After your appointment, leave the clear bandage on for 24 hours.

    • After 24 hours, peel the bandage off under running water in the shower or sink, working water under the bandage to weaken the adhesive. Clean with unscented soap and pat dry with a paper towel. Apply a new bandage and leave that on for 6 days.

    • After 6 days is up, take the bandage off as you've done before and clean your tattoo. Moisturize with unscented lotion once a day until your tattoo stops peeling. You no longer need to bandage your new tattoo, it's protected under a new layer of skin.

    • After your appointment, leave your bandage on for 4-6 hours. Do not take the bandage off until you are home or in a clean environment.

    • The first 2-3 days: Your tattoo is considered an open wound, so please keep it clean to avoid an infection. Wash with unscented soap and pat dry with a paper towel once daily, or more frequently if the tattoo is in an area of the body more exposed to dirt/ bacteria. Do not apply lotion yet.

    • Day 4 and on for up to 4 weeks: Wash once daily and apply a small amount of lotion once daily. Your tattoo will be dried up and feeling a little tight. This is the scab layer, and your tattoo is healing under fresh skin below that surface. Do not pick or scratch at this layer, or you may damage your tattoo.

    • Repeat Washing and applying lotion until your tattoo no longer flakes. Your tattoo should be fully healed and settled in 3-4 weeks.

  • DO:

    • Treat yo self. You sat through a tattoo session, and big or small you deserve a lil somethin' somethin'.

    • Have a nap. Again, that session was probably exhausting.

    • Keep your tattoo clean ( I cannot stress this enough) but don't fuss too much over it either. My best healing experiences have been with cleaning/ protecting my new tattoo but ignoring it otherwise.

    • Show your cool new tattoo off to friends, family, co-workers, strangers in the grocery store and all your neighbourhood cats . Tell them who did it, I love referrals!

    • Give me a shout if you want another!

      DON'T:

    • Pick at or scratch your new tattoo during the healing phase. Give it a light slap if you really need to relieve the itch.

    • Exercise and sweat in excess. Sweat will keep the new tattoo wet when it's trying to dry out that scab layer. Light exercises for the first week are ok.

    • Swim or submerge your new tattoo in water until it's fully healed. Only rinsing it in the shower or under the tap is fine.

    • Tanning or allowing your tattoo to get a sunburn. It's doing it's best to heal, it doesn't need more obstacles.

    • Over lotion it. No thick ointments, only a thin layer will do.

    • Touch your fresh tattoo with dirty hands. Or let others touch your fresh tattoo with their grubby hands. Yuck!
